Follow up a bank complaint that is stuck
Get your facts together with a trusted grown-up.
Ask the handling or escalation officer for a reasoned response to an existing complaint, with the unresolved points and evidence.
Where it applies: India; the bank, product, requester authority and current instructions determine the process
A follow-up to a complaint already sent to the bank, rather than a fresh unconnected letter.
Use it when the reply misses a point, the requested record is absent or the complaint status is unclear.
Find the original complaint acknowledgment, date and the bank's actual reply before escalating.
Gather your pieces
- Use the bank's published grievance route and identify the next handling officer.
- Keep the original complaint, acknowledgment, delivery proof, replies and supporting records.
- Check any external filing limit independently; a follow-up is not an automatic extension.

To: [Bank and handling office] Date: [Document date] From: [Account holder / authorised requester] Account/service reference: [Account or loan reference] Reply channel: [Reply channel] Subject: Follow-up and request for a reasoned response to an existing complaint Dear Sir/Madam, Please review the existing complaint identified below and the points that remain unresolved. ORIGINAL COMPLAINT [Original complaint] REPLY OR ACTION ALREADY RECEIVED [Reply / action already received] BACKGROUND [Relevant facts] UNRESOLVED POINTS [Points still unresolved] REQUESTED ACTION [Requested action] Please address the identified points individually and explain the relevant record, policy or transaction position on which the bank relies. If a correction, issued document or other action has been completed, please provide the corresponding reference or output. If an action remains pending, please identify its present stage, handling unit and any information required from me. If this matter belongs with another officer in the published grievance process, please advise the correct escalation route and preserve the connection to the original complaint reference. Please do not treat this follow-up as withdrawing or replacing the original facts unless I have expressly asked for that. EVIDENCE ATTACHED OR AVAILABLE [Evidence index] The supporting items are identified for review. I have separated the bank's stated position from my unresolved concerns and seek an accurate explanation and appropriate action based on the actual records. Please acknowledge this follow-up and provide a written response through the verified reply channel. I will keep it with the original complaint and response history. This request does not assume a particular decision or create an extension of any applicable external filing period. Yours faithfully, [Account holder / authorised requester] Signature and capacity, if required: ____________________
Your next moves
- Keep the follow-up acknowledgment and the bank's reasoned response.
- If unresolved, check current RBI entity coverage, eligibility, waiting period, filing window and exclusions before using CMS.
Real-world check
Original communication to the bank, not an RBI complaint form or a court filing. Escalation follows the bank's process. Repeating a complaint does not automatically restart an external time limit, and the CMS route does not cover every entity or grievance.
