Ask the bank to check incorrect account details
Make a first draft, then check it with a grown-up.
Describe the existing name, address, contact or record discrepancy and ask the bank for the correct verification and update process.
Where it applies: India; the bank, product, requester authority and current instructions determine the process
A covering explanation of an exact record discrepancy or requested customer-detail update.
Use it when a bank record differs from the correct supporting document or a legitimate detail has changed.
Save the current entry and identify the document or fact supporting the requested update.
Gather your pieces
- Separate a clerical error from a legal name change, account-holder change, KYC update or transaction dispute.
- Use the bank's prescribed update process and required supporting documents.
- Do not put passwords, PINs, OTPs or identity-document images in this draft.

To: [Bank and handling office] Date: [Document date] From: [Account holder / authorised requester] Account/customer reference: [Account or loan reference] Reply channel: [Reply channel] Subject: Request to verify and update an identified customer-record detail Dear Sir/Madam, Please review the specific entry or update request described below under the bank's applicable process. DETAIL CURRENTLY RECORDED [Existing detail] CORRECT OR UPDATED DETAIL AND BASIS [Detail requested and supporting basis] BACKGROUND [Relevant facts] REQUESTED ACTION [Requested action] Please compare the present entry with the supporting information and advise the verification or application required. I have separated the existing detail from the proposed change so that a clerical correction is not confused with a substantive change in account-holder rights, mandate or status. SUPPORTING RECORDS AVAILABLE [Supporting record index] Any required identification or supporting document can be provided through the bank's verified channel. Please advise if a fresh KYC process, legal-name-change record, signature verification, joint-holder consent or another prescribed process is needed for the particular change. I do not ask the bank to bypass those requirements. If the entry results from a source document or previous application that differs from my understanding, please explain the reference and the appropriate way to obtain or clarify it. If the requested change is outside this unit's authority, please identify the correct service or handling office. After any approved update, please provide the acknowledgment or confirmation and identify the field or service affected. Please also state if another linked account, card, communication preference or service requires a separate request; I do not assume every system changes automatically. Please communicate further requirements through the reply channel shown above. Yours faithfully, [Account holder / authorised requester] Signature and capacity, as required: ____________________
Your next moves
- Submit supporting records only through the verified bank channel and retain acknowledgment.
- Check the updated record and the status of any related service separately.
Real-world check
This letter does not change a bank record by itself. Customer details, holder ownership, joint mandates, nomination and KYC are different processes. A requested change may require further verification or consent and is not treated as automatically approved.
